this once second hand basic white t-shirt has been pre-washed, darned, re-cut and stitched into a simple spaghetti strap racerback summer vest top. recycling, deconstructing and re-crafting the old to make something new makes this limited edition project very special.

A collection of standard second hand upcycled vests with elegant details. A crisp white top is a wardrobe staple in my life, once upon a time some might of considered that my white top collection was bordering on obsession, vests, t-shirts, shirts, knitwear, etc. You name the top I had several, and although I might feel frivolous buying yet another white top, there is nothing to stop me from making another one.

the re-imagining of an old white t-shirt into an easy throw on summer vest

I picked the original t-shirt up at a sample sale on the Kings Road a few years ago and packed it away ready for warmer weather.

Although I like the original tee, a little personalised one-day project could make it a little more interesting and the new shape is the perfect cut for hot weather.

The sample sale tee was washed and pressed in preparation for cutting. Then I cut along the shoulder seam through to the sleeve hem. Folded at centre front and centre back I laid the sample flat, then re-cut the neckline and armhole. Bound the front and back neckline, then re stitched the front neckline by hand with gold embroidery thread. Finally I stitched the binding from the side seam around the armhole with strap lengths included.

At the very end I felt something was missing, so decided to cut the folded edge off the hem for a raw finish.
